Meucci Pool Cues: Black Dot Shaft
There is always a lot of debate on the subject of Meucci pool cues and deflection. One of the cues that always inspires a lot of strong opinions is the Meucci Black Dot shaft. Bob Meucci has invested a lot of time and energy into bringing the deflection debate to the fore-front of pool cue discussions.
Bob Meucci Travels the Country with His Meucci Pool Cues
I've seen him travel to shows like the Valley Forge Expo and work tirelessly to show how his cues stack up against the rest of the field. He uses his mechanical "Myth Destroyer" device to test all kinds of cues. I'm not sure anyone in the pool industry has sparked more debate and conversation about cue shaft performance than Bob Meucci.
Now he has introduced the Power Piston butt, which he claims helps reduce deflection even more.
Meucci pool cues have a new upgrade: The Power Piston Butt
In this video you will hear Bob explain how they have improved Meucci pool cues with the development of the Power Piston Butt. The new butt has more flex (7% more), which according to Bob, decreases the cue deflection even more. I guess many people wouldn't think the butt design would affect how a cue deflects, but this video would suggest otherwise.

I can't say that I can make a scientific argument about his methods of measurement, but something seems a bit off when I see his results. What do you think? I'd love to hear your opinion on this subject. Have you played with Meucci pool cues before? How about the Meucci shaft or the power piston butt, any opinions?
Please, share what you've found.
I think people need to hear some unbiased reviews before buying.

Hi, well I have 2 Meucci’s: HOF-2 and Power Piston 1 ->
from video (just arrived today). Not sure.. A lot of debate on
deflection in general and Meucci’s tests in particular..
Many say no good.. I think so to.. Too many parameters can be ‘cheated’ with and of course test are not independent.
I know a guy who also has a HOF-2 but plays with a predator Z2 shaft on it because he found org. BD-shaft too ‘whippy’.
Got myself one of those few days ago, just to see what it’s like
(is also 1 mm smaller in tip dia.). Damn Z2 is stiff !!
No verdict yet. I know a lot of very good players use predator
stuff, also a lot dislike Meucci: Matter of taste.
More later perhaps and please more Replies !
Joost,
Your comments are similar to what I hear a lot. I stopped playing with a Meucci cue many years ago, because the shaft was too whippy. I haven’t played with the black dot, but I hear that the results from actual play don’t seem to agree with Bob Meucci’s test results.
I have played with the Z2 shaft and I could see a huge difference in how it plays compared to more conventional shafts. I am planning on buying a cue with a Z2 shaft, when I get another cue. I think I’ll just try a sneaky with a Z2 shaft to start with. Also, the smaller shaft will help me, because I have small hands, so I’m anxious to try it out for that reason too. With my previous cues, I’ve foud myself playing with an open bridge about 75% of the time, because it feels better for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
