About The Viking V166 Pool Cue

The Viking V166 cue is one of the more ornate Viking Cues, featuring birdseye maple forearm and butt sleeve. There are 10 Mexican Bocote floating points, too, and 30 bocote and Michigan maple sleeve inlays on the butt. Tons of inlays for a production cue. It features a 13mm shaft with an Everest laminated tip. One nice feature for this cue is the brown leather wrap. It is sometimes hard to find production cues with leather wrap, so keep this in mind when considering to buy a Viking V166 model cue.

Overall, a lot of inlays, but only two types of wood, which gives it a certain look that I, personally, don't care for. As always, the aesthetics of a cue are highly personal, so you may love it. With Viking cues, the quality is going to be good for a production cue and they stand behind their products, so you shouldn't be worried about the quality of this cue. Below, you will find more details about the Viking V166 pool cue and where to buy it.

About The Joss JOS67 Cue

The Joss JOS67 is a nice looking cue with some really nice woods like curly maple, black ash, Brazilian bloodwood, ebony and holly. This is not one of my favorite cue designs from Joss cues, but that is just my opinion. Though, I'm sure the craftsmanship is great and the hit is very solid. I just don't really like the design that much. This Joss cue design is wrapless, so keep that in mind.

That being said, I'm sure many of you will disagree with me and that is fine. The stainless steel joint and short stiff taper of the Joss cue should give it a really stiff hit, so if that is what you are looking for you shouldn't be disappointed.

Each Joss JOS67 cue is engraved with a serial number on the joint, which I think looks pretty damn cool and it helps to identify the cue for security and/or warranty issues.

I would compare Joss Cues to Schon cues, when it comes to quality, playability and craftsmanship. You would be smart to check them out.

Where to Buy a Joss JOS67 Cue

You can find many Joss cues for sale on this page. Specifically, you may be able to find new and used Joss JOS67 cues here, for sure. I am an authorized dealer for Joss cues, so leave me a comment if you are interested on a good deal on a new Joss cue.

About The McDermott NG01 Jump/Break Cue

(a.k.a. The McDermott Stinger Break Cue)

The McDermott NG01 cue is also known as The Stinger jump/break cue. It has that name, because it features McDermott's "stinger" technology that was designed to take hit energy straight to the center of the shaft, regardless of where you hit the tip. According to McDermott, this design feature allows the tip on a Stinger to be much flatter than those on a typical break cue. The flatter profile gives the Stinger tip a huge "sweet spot", meaning you can miss-hit and still get the result you intended.

Opinions that I have read on this cue vary greatly. Evaluating a break cue's performance is tough, because it really depends on the type of breaking technique that you use. Therefore, different players will require different types of performance from their break cue. The weight, tip, grip, etc. all come into play when breaking. That being said, I think this cue should be a good break cue for most players.

More About McDermott Cues

All McDermott shafts are made from the finest kiln-dried hand-selected North American Hard Rock Maple and are turned 11 times. Each shaft is machined, bored and CNC-thread cut for consistency.

McDermott hand selects only the finest woods from around the globe and ages it for 18 to 24 months, storing and machining each piece three times to let moisture escape.

The tri-core butt construction McDermott utilizes promotes straightness over the cue’s lifetime.

McDermott’s wood-to-wood joints provide consistent surface contact, delivering the most solid hit in the industry.

McDermott also uses an exclusive Impact Control Ring, which is made from a polymer matrix composite originally developed by NASA.

McDermott cues feature chrome tanned water buffalo medium hard triangle tips and hand-glued and screwed fine weave linen-based Ivorine III ferrules (NOTE: The McDermott Stinger Cue comes with a phenolic tip)

Viper pool cues are a low-end production cue that you can pick up for under a hundred bucks. They come in many different styles with lots of graphic designs. I think the quality of these cues is marginal. They are probably better than the cheap pool cues that I played with when I was a kid, with the screw in tip and brass joints. They would not be my cue of choice, though, in the price range of $50 to $100.

The cue market has changed, drastically, over the last 20 years or so. The low end of the market has come up in quality, due to the increase in capabilities of the cue manufacturers over seas. That being said, if you are looking for a cue under $100, I know you can find a better quality cue, like a Players pool cue, Star pool cue or a Sterling cue. I wouldn't recommend spending more than $30 or $40 on a Viper pool cue. You would be better off looking around for one of those cues.

So, Where Can You Buy Viper Pool Cues?

If you are dead-set on buying a Viper pool cue, then check out the listings on this page. You should be able to find a good deal on one. I would encourage you to look around on my site to find one of the other brands I mentioned or a good deal on a used Mali cue, meucci cue, Viking cue or another of the more trusted production cue brands. If you are looking for a good cue under $75 and are not sure what to buy, just leave me a message below asking for my help. I'm an authorized dealer for many brands of cues, like Players Cues, Viking Cues, Sterling Cues, Lucasi Cues and many more. I know I can set you up with a good deal to get you playing with a good quality cue. One that will play and last longer than a Viper cue.

Cheers,
Skippy

The Meucci HP01 cue is one of my all-time favorite meucci cues. I'm a huge fan of traditional old-school cue designs. I think this cue looks really cool for the money. Also, the nickel silver joint makes it different from most Meucci cues and should make it play a little stiffer, which I think would be a nice improvement over the Meucci wood-to-wood joint.

The colors of the points are a nice classic look and the addition of the mother-of-pearl diamond inlays gives it a really nice look. If you want a cue with that throw-back look, then go with the Meucci HP-1 pool cue.

"Entry Level Elegance", that's what I like to call this Fury Cue. This cue is a great example of the fine product that Fury Cues is producing these days. I think their newest line-up of cues is a big step-up in design and function, compared to their cues from just a few years ago.

I picked this particular cue to share with you, because I think that it brings a nice level of class for a cue that has an MSRP of only $395 and you can buy a Fury TP10 Cue at my cue store for only $316. (with Free Shipping ).

I think the wrapless design with the combination of white, rengas wood and ring-work gives it a really high-end look. The cue has some unique point inlays that are mirror images of rengas and black/white veneers. This Fury Cue features a white phenolic joint with a radial pin, which produces a great hitting cue. Fury has done a great job of selecting great hard rock Canadian Maple for the shafts of their TP Model cues. The Fury TP series has 12.75mm Tiger Everest Tips and come with a set of joint protectors.

Bottom-line...I think that, for the money, this is as good of a cue that you'll find in the production cue market for around $300. That is why I'm carrying this cue in my new cue store. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Skippy

Check out this nice Randy Mobley Cue

A Skippy Cue Club member, Mike, is trying to find out what his Randy Mobley Cue is worth . According to Mike, this is the actual cue that Rodney Morris played with during the 2006 IPT 8 Ball Championships. Mike says he has documents to back up this claim. Of course, Randy Mobley cues don't need any help keeping their value, but this adds a bit of history to this cue.

For anyone that is not familiar with Randy Mobley's Cues, he has a great reputation as a craftsman and for producing cues that really play super. Everyone that I've heard that own's one of Randy's cues is extremely happy with their cue.

Thanks to Mike for letting me put up some pictures of his cue. It is a Randy Mobley Cue with butterfly splices at the butt sleeve area and into the wrap area. The forearm has 4 basic points. Also, there is some ring work in the butt area. Here are some pictures of his cue. I know Mike wants to know what it is worth, but I don't know if it is for sale. For the right offer, you never know, so please comment at the bottom if you are interested or if you have a guess regarding its value.

Mike's Randy Mobley Cue Pics

There are two things about this custom cue that makes it worth some money and probably pretty easy to sell. The most important aspect of the is cue is that, simply, it is a Randy Mobley cue. Mobley cues are very hard to find on the used cue market. It is probably even more difficult to get a new cue from Randy. From what I hear, he only makes a handful of cues per year and his back-log of cue orders is over 4 years long, the last I heard. From the few cues that I've seen hit the market, they seem to sell really fast. I'm not really sure if the fact that this was Rodney Morris' cue will add any monetary value. I'm a HUGE Rodney Morris fan and have been for many years, but I don't think I would pay more for this cue, because he played with it. Maybe I'm just not very sentimental. What do you think?

I saw one of Randy Mobley's cues sell via auction and it had 17 bids and sold for over $1,500 in mid-2011. It wasn't a very fancy model, either. It's probably a little surprising that it didn't sell for more. Probably a sign of the soft cue market these days.

Anyhow, assuming that the cue is in good physical condition, I would think this Mobley Cue could fetch around that same amount. It depends on finding the right buyer. Anyone else agree or disagree? I'd love some opinions.

If you are interested in the cue, comment below or send me an email.
