The Meucci HP01 cue is one of my all-time favorite meucci cues. I'm a huge fan of traditional old-school cue designs. I think this cue looks really cool for the money. Also, the nickel silver joint makes it different from most Meucci cues and should make it play a little stiffer, which I think would be a nice improvement over the Meucci wood-to-wood joint.

The colors of the points are a nice classic look and the addition of the mother-of-pearl diamond inlays gives it a really nice look. If you want a cue with that throw-back look, then go with the Meucci HP-1 pool cue.

Fury TP10 Cue

"Entry Level Elegance", that's what I like to call this Fury Cue. This cue is a great example of the fine product that Fury Cues is producing these days. I think their newest line-up of cues is a big step-up in design and function, compared to their cues from just a few years ago.

I picked this particular cue to share with you, because I think that it brings a nice level of class for a cue that has an MSRP of only $395 and you can buy a Fury TP10 Cue at my cue store for only $316. (with Free Shipping ).

I think the wrapless design with the combination of white, rengas wood and ring-work gives it a really high-end look. The cue has some unique point inlays that are mirror images of rengas and black/white veneers. This Fury Cue features a white phenolic joint with a radial pin, which produces a great hitting cue. Fury has done a great job of selecting great hard rock Canadian Maple for the shafts of their TP Model cues. The Fury TP series has 12.75mm Tiger Everest Tips and come with a set of joint protectors.

Bottom-line...I think that, for the money, this is as good of a cue that you'll find in the production cue market for around $300. That is why I'm carrying this cue in my new cue store. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Skippy

Check out this nice Randy Mobley Cue

A Skippy Cue Club member, Mike, is trying to find out what his Randy Mobley Cue is worth . According to Mike, this is the actual cue that Rodney Morris played with during the 2006 IPT 8 Ball Championships. Mike says he has documents to back up this claim. Of course, Randy Mobley cues don't need any help keeping their value, but this adds a bit of history to this cue.

For anyone that is not familiar with Randy Mobley's Cues, he has a great reputation as a craftsman and for producing cues that really play super. Everyone that I've heard that own's one of Randy's cues is extremely happy with their cue.

Thanks to Mike for letting me put up some pictures of his cue. It is a Randy Mobley Cue with butterfly splices at the butt sleeve area and into the wrap area. The forearm has 4 basic points. Also, there is some ring work in the butt area. Here are some pictures of his cue. I know Mike wants to know what it is worth, but I don't know if it is for sale. For the right offer, you never know, so please comment at the bottom if you are interested or if you have a guess regarding its value.

Mike's Randy Mobley Cue Pics

There are two things about this custom cue that makes it worth some money and probably pretty easy to sell. The most important aspect of the is cue is that, simply, it is a Randy Mobley cue. Mobley cues are very hard to find on the used cue market. It is probably even more difficult to get a new cue from Randy. From what I hear, he only makes a handful of cues per year and his back-log of cue orders is over 4 years long, the last I heard. From the few cues that I've seen hit the market, they seem to sell really fast. I'm not really sure if the fact that this was Rodney Morris' cue will add any monetary value. I'm a HUGE Rodney Morris fan and have been for many years, but I don't think I would pay more for this cue, because he played with it. Maybe I'm just not very sentimental. What do you think?

I saw one of Randy Mobley's cues sell via auction and it had 17 bids and sold for over $1,500 in mid-2011. It wasn't a very fancy model, either. It's probably a little surprising that it didn't sell for more. Probably a sign of the soft cue market these days.

Anyhow, assuming that the cue is in good physical condition, I would think this Mobley Cue could fetch around that same amount. It depends on finding the right buyer. Anyone else agree or disagree? I'd love some opinions.

If you are interested in the cue, comment below or send me an email.

Cheers,
Skippy

The Joss Jos02 Cue Description

The Joss JOS02 cue is a very basic design with some inlays in the butt section and a very clean forearm, consisting of just nice birdseye maple with no inlays. The butt section has six sets of ebony circles connected by ebony lines. Each ebony circle has mother of pearl inlays for a very nice contrasting look. The cue has a black and white irish linen wrap. The joint is stainless steel with a 5/16 x 14 thread. The shaft diameter is standard at 13mm. This is one of Joss Cues more basic models, yet it does have a little decoration on the butt, which adds a little flavor. A nice/solid cue for the money...the JOS02 by Joss.

About The Mezz z401 Cue

If you shop for cues, because of the way that they play, instead of all of the intricate inlays, then the Mezz Z401 pool stick could be a good pool cue for you. This cue is very similar to the Mezz Sneaky Pete Cue but has the addition of an Irish linen wrap, see my review of the Mezz ZZSP Sneaky Pete Cue . This pool stick features Blackwood on the sleeve that continues to form points on the Birdseye Maple forearm. It is a minimalistic design, but is one that is executed rather well. It comes standard with the Mezz WD700, low-deflection, shaft with a 12.5mm tip. It also features a stainless steel joint.

If you were not already aware, Viking Cues stopped production back in late 2010 after being operated by Gordon Hart for 45 years. At the time of the shutdown, there was a lot of speculation about the cue companies future, though comments were made that they were under negotiations to sell the long-time pool cue manufacturing company.

Viking Cues has made high-quality production cues in their Madison, WI facility for a long time. The increase in competition, especially from high-quality import cues, made it harder for them to compete. It looks like the new management is poised to take the Viking Cue Brand into the 21st century and help them be more competitive marketing-wise.
Here is the press release from Viking Cues.

Billiards Giant Viking Cues Reopens Under New Leadership

Pool cue manufacturing leader Viking Cue Manufacturing, LLC reopens under the new ownership of Wisconsin businessman Mark Larson. Nearly all of the same employees were rehired, though executive team has innovative plans for new direction.

MADISON, WI - May 14, 2011 - After closing doors on pool cue manufacturing in 2010, billiards leader Viking Cue has reopened under the leadership of local businessman Mark Larson.

Larson, a longtime friend of Viking's 27-year veteran VP of Manufacturing, Rick Rolli, placed a bid on the business after a visit to the company's facilities. "I really fell in love with the operation and the rich history of Viking. I knew that there was another chapter just waiting to be written," said Larson, who purchased the company on May 9.

Founded in 1965 by Gordon Hart, who remains with the company as a consultant, Viking has a worldwide reputation for craftsmanship and excellence. "Viking has always had a superior product line and an incredibly loyal following in the billiards industry," said industry veteran Rolli. "We're going to breathe life back into this company. We've got the same facility, a great inventory of product, state of the art equipment and the same artisans, many who have been here for over 25 years."

Since the company has rehired nearly all of the same employees, little will change within its basic infrastructure, though the company has plans for new initiatives. "We're bringing back the family and the employees, and we'll never lose sight of the quality Viking is known for. But we're about to make big pushes in marketing and product offerings. It's what this company needs to thrive."

One of Viking's main goals is to create a top-notch interactive website so that dealers and individual customers alike have easy access to Viking products. "In the past, Viking didn't have a strong web presence. Dealers couldn't just go online and buy cues. We want to make ordering easy for everyone, and create an online image that reflects Viking's unmatched craftsmanship," said Rolli.

The company also plans to reach out to new markets, and make the company's products accessible to more people: plans for additional product and accessory lines with multiple price points to appeal to a broader audience. Though the goals are largely customer-focused, another main concern is giving dealers the tools they need to succeed.

Reflecting on his plans for the company, Larson stressed his interest in the company's history and tradition. "The main thing we want to let Viking fans know is that the core product isn't changing. The quality remains the same. But let's put it this way - we're racking up for a fresh new break. Our game is about to get a lot more interesting, and we're more than excited to share what we've got."

About: Since 1965, Viking Cue Manufacturing, Inc. has been an industry leader in two-piece pool cue production. With headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, Viking products are proudly made in the USA with commitment to quality, craftsmanship and time-honored tradition.

I wish the new management well and you can bet that I will be following the new Viking Cue brand with a lot of interest.

Cheers,
Skippy
